Phillip was
born in Hamburg, Germany, on May 22, 1969. His first exposure
to the US was in
1986 as an exchange student. At the end of his stay
he graduated from Issaquah High School, Washington. He
finished his Abitur (German High School) in 1990. The
same year he returned to study at Seattle Pacific University,
Washington.
Philipp graduated in 1993 with a BA in Economics. He spent the next four years working in the shipping
industry: 1993-1994 at
Hapag-Lloyd
America in Seattle, Washington;
From 1994-1997 he managed the
transatlantic freight for Seagate Container Line & Transworld
Shipping. He was also in charge of marketing the company. He was
one of the key players in turning Seagate around into a profitable
company.
Philipp left the company in 1997 to pursue an
MBA. In 1999, he graduated with an MBA in Marketing followed by a
Masters in Information Systems in 2000.
Philipp has been working as
a Marketing and Business Development professional for Costco
Wholesale since 1999.
While working on his MBA, Philipp became
interested in Waste Management through his father, Dr.-Ing. W.
Schmidt-Pathmann, the Managing Director of Hanseatisches
Schlackenkontor GmbH. Philipp wrote several studies on Waste to
Energy.
Growing up in environmentally
conscious Germany, Philipp quickly developed an understanding
for Waste Management practices. As an environmental
advocate and with his close ties to one of the leading
companies in the Thermal Recycling® field, the
Cogeneration Waste Treatment Facility Rugenberger Damm (MVR)
in Hamburg, Germany, he is pursuing Thermal
Recycling®
as the currently
most advanced and environmentally friendly means of waste disposal.
Under Philipp's lead Waste Recovery Seattle International, LLC. (WRSI), was founded in 1998.
In Winter of 2003, Douglas Gilmore joint WRSI as VP. Since then, Philipp and Doug have pursued the joint goal to reintroduce the US to WTE plants and
to consult companies and municipalities on how to build them most efficiently.
Being born into a
US Navy family, Doug spent his youth traveling and living in various
parts of the world. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political
Science and Economics from Willamette University, Doug attended The
American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird)
in Phoenix, Arizona and was awarded a MBA in International
Management.
Upon graduation
Doug joined Levi Strauss and Company in San Francisco, California.
His fourteen years with Levi’s took him to six different postings in
the US and stints in Canada and Australia. In his last position as
VP, Assistant General Manager of Australia, Doug was responsible for
all operating aspects of the organization. He spearheaded an
advertising campaign that was a complete departure from Levi’s
traditional themes. The campaign went on to win a Golden Lion at
Cannes and increased the Australia market share to the highest in
the world. In addition the spots became the foundation for the
famous "501" campaigns run in the United States.
After innumerable
moves with Levi’s, and the next move being Mexico, Doug moved his
family from Sydney to Seattle. Following years with a
multi-national auto glass retailer/wholesaler, Doug launched Eddie
Bauer International. His efforts were responsible for selection,
training, supporting and monitoring joint-venture partners. This
effort resulted in Eddie Bauer placing almost 100 stores and
distributing 100’s of millions of catalogs in Japan, Germany and the
United Kingdom.
His next
assignment took Doug from Manchester, England to Boston,
Massachusetts. Here he headed up the international operation of a
Coleman (lanterns, camp stoves, etc) division. Coleman was
subsequently sold to Sunbeam Corporation run, at that time by
"Chainsaw" Al Dunlap. Following “Chainsaw’s" prosecution for
cooking the books, Doug decided it was time to return to Seattle.
Just prior to his
experience at Eddie Bauer, Doug had founded a company in Seattle
involved in the presorting, commingling and bar coding of mail. A
full time General Manager ran the company for 8 years and Doug took
over as the “active" in 2000. This company, MailMovers, Inc., is
the largest presort/mail fulfillment operation in the Northwest.
Through a serendipitous meeting Doug met
Philipp Schmidt-Pathmann and shortly thereafter joined Phil at WRSI. He shares
Phil’s passion for Thermal Recycling®
as a sound, economic and ethical solution to solid
waste disposal.
Dr.-Ing. Heiner Zwahr is an expert in
Cogeneration Thermal
Recycling® facilities. He received his degree in
Mechanical Engineering and PhD from the University in
Hannover, Germany followed by studies at the Bundeswehr
(Military) University in Hamburg, Germany. Dr. Zwahr has
extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of power plant
engineering and design, as well as district heating. Since
1979, Dr. Zwahr has been working for the Hamburg Electricity
Works AG (HEW). In 1989, he was in charge of the planning,
building, and operations of Waste Treatment Facility
Borsigstrasse (MVB). In 1994, Dr. Zwahr applied the experience
he gained while working at MVB, to build the Thermal
Recycling®
Facility Rugenberger Damm (MVR).
He now serves as the Managing Director of this “State of the Art" facility.
